It works and works well. 2 tonne fitted within a minute
In my experience, winding until it can still move, putting it into place, and then tightening it is the best. I have absolutely no doubt that, properly fitted, it could take 2 tonnes. For some home uses they may be a bit big...

clamp the beam tight and this thing won't let you dpwn.
My beam clamp is very sturdy, built very well I have used many of these in the past and the do what the say (Mic drop).
