It was my first time compressing springs. The internet makes it seem as though the average DIY’er stands a 90% chance of dying when doing so. I’m pleased to report that it went great and I felt safe the whole time using this tool. The build quality is great. I used the tool for struts on two passenger vehicles. The largest yoke fit the spring diameter best, which was good because the large yokes also have the tallest lip to restrain the spring coil. Additionally I used the yoke without the supplied plastic covers to allow the coils to sit deeper in the yoke. The lead screw ran smoothly with a little grease applied - easily turned with hand tools. The only issue I came across was that the springs on one vehicle are wound in the opposite direction to the shape of the yoke. I was still able to make it work but the coil wasn’t seated as nicely in the yoke for obvious reasons. That said the lip was still retaining the spring coil throughout the process, so it felt safe. I would definitely recommend this tool to anyone considering compressing springs at home.

Former VW master tech and this thing is as good as the one VW supplies for hundreds of dollars less. Highly recommend.

This coil spring compressor has been a fantastic tool for my workshop. I use it regularly, and it has made suspension work much faster and easier compared to older tools I’ve used before. The construction feels strong and durable, and the clamps hold the springs securely during use. It gives me confidence while working on struts and shock absorbers, and the whole process feels much safer and more convenient. The kit is easy to set up and works smoothly on different types of suspension springs. It has already saved me a lot of time and effort, especially during frequent repairs and maintenance jobs. Very good quality for the price, and definitely a tool I would recommend to anyone working on suspension systems regularly.

I don't see a problem using for non HD springs. I used on rav4 2016 front. I made a mistake with standard type before and had spring unload on me. Luckily other way. I'd changed plenty of linear type before. Spring compressing is highly dangerous. I wouldn't use this product to do anything other than standard sedan or wagon type springs with the exception of tapered progressive wound springs that are linear. I felt the product was safe to use when used in accordance and only using hand tools no air tools. Only compressing the spring as much as needed just.
