This post hole digger is based on old-school, traditional means of digging holes. If you need to maintain a narrow opening on top, then use an auger, otherwise, using these will naturally widen the top of the hole as you go deeper. They are not light, which aids with the downward plunging action. They easily cut through small roots, and the depth gauge on the side of the handle is a nice touch.

I have purchased 3 different brand post hole diggers and this steel version is by far the best! It's heavy so when you slam it down it digs deep, it scoops and brings a lot of dirt out of the home at once. The measurements on the bottom save tons of time figuring out depth without having to get a measuring tape to.

Really surprised at how heavy these are. I dug post holes 3 foot deep for a fence with these. No problem. One piece handle.
