The main structural material for the shell is medium-density fiberboard (MDF). The outside is finished with carpet on the base and side panels, and fake leather on the visible faces. It does not resonate sympathetically at bass frequencies as light wood or plastic materials do, so the enclosure walls remain still, and the driver's output is the only sound energy leaving the box.
Because the carpet and fake leather are treated on the outside, the enclosure is ready for installation. Most aftermarket subwoofer enclosures have carpet on all surfaces. The fake leather facing on this unit gives the surfaces visible when the boot is opened a more refined look. The sealed enclosure type changes the driver's bass output characteristics, prioritizing accuracy and transient control over maximum low-end extension. In a sealed enclosure, the trapped air acts as an air spring, helping control cone movement for accurate bass reproduction. A sealed enclosure is designed to deliver tighter, more controlled bass with excellent transient response. Because of these features, the bass feels punchy and clear on fast bass lines and drum patterns, with each note clearly ending and beginning rather than blending into the next.
The 30–150 Hz range covers the sub-bass and upper bass that factory systems do not handle well. It includes both the deep sub-bass fundamental tones below 60 Hz and the mid-bass region between 60 and 150 Hz, which is where kick drum punch, bass guitar body, and lower piano notes are reproduced. With this wide low-frequency coverage, you get a full bass response that works with the factory midrange and treble output, with no gaps in the frequency range.
The rubber wrap around the cone's edge and the spider at the voice coil make up the driver's suspension system. This system controls how well the cone follows the input signal during excursion. Within a large linear excursion range, high-compliance rubber surrounds allow the cone to move freely, without restricting cone movement near the limits of travel. This causes distortion when the suspension hits the edges of its compliant zone on high-amplitude bass peaks.
The high-quality spider part and surround work together to keep the voice coil perfectly in the motor gap during the excursion cycle. This keeps the voice coil from making uneven contact with the magnet structure, which would cause more harmonic distortion. The suspension system helps maintain stable cone movement, contributing to cleaner, more accurate bass reproduction. These numbers show clear, detailed bass recording at both low levels for everyday listening and high levels for long driving sessions.
The built-in amplifier has a three-knob control panel that lets you make the basic adjustments needed to fit this 12" subwoofer and amp package into any factory or aftermarket audio system without causing frequency imbalances or timing problems. GAIN matches the amplifier's input sensitivity to the connected head unit's output voltage. This stops both under-driving, which wastes output potential, and over-driving, which distorts the amplifier input stage.
Improper crossover settings can cause bass to sound overly heavy or muddy. LPF sets the crossover frequency below which the subwoofer operates, so it cannot play midrange content that factory speakers already handle well. When the subwoofer is placed far from the listener, the PHASE adjustment corrects the phase alignment between the subwoofer and the factory speakers. This prevents destructive cancellation at shared frequencies.
This 12" subwoofer and amp package includes a high-to-low-level converter, making it compatible with many factory and aftermarket audio systems. This part is very important for factory head unit integration; without it, cars without RCA pre-outs cannot connect to an aftermarket amplifier without getting a whole new head unit.
