This stops the pad from moving to the side, which can happen when a flat rubber pad sits on a curved or ribbed jacking surface without a way to hold it in place.
The thick rubber walls absorb any changes in the surface between the steel saddle and the vehicle's lift point. This keeps the chassis rails, sill edges, and painted surfaces safe from metal contact. There are two swivel casters on the back of the jack and two fixed wheels on the front. The single-piston hydraulic system provides smooth lifting throughout the 85–350 mm range.
