A lathe can process forward threads as well as left-hand threads. Processing left- and right-hand threads is a matter of craftsmanship and not a function of the machine tool. To install a chuck on a woodworking machine, you only need to install a transition head on the spindle. One end of the transition head has an M18 thread and is screwed on the spindle. The other end is screwed on the chuck according to the chuck thread.
