This ball vise is a bargain for anyone starting out in engraving on a budget. I do not own any of the high end brand vises, but I have little doubt this vice is not as precisely made as its expensive competition.I have included a picture of what I received in the box. The maker went to great lengths to convince you it is a well known high end brand, but after comparing the parts breakdown to the vice, they are not the same.Hopefully if you are getting into engraving you have some skill working with metal, and you will have the ability to tune this vice "kit" and make it into a tool that will be much more pleasant to work with.Things I have identified that need to be done to mine....tightening up the fit of the jaws in the top grooves, and removing the top of the vise and cleaning/greasing the bearings.The fit of the jaws in the channel they run in is a bit sloppy for my tastes. The fit side to side appears to be much better then it is up and down. If you rock the jaw back to front there seems to be excessive movement, and I am concerned that will allow the jaws to work loose with the vibration from engraving. I plan to take a punch and peen the side of the jaw (on top of the side rail...front and back) so it fits better in the groove it slides in. I am sure this will take a little fitting and fine tuning but should make the jaws fit much more solidly.With a little sweat equity I think this will be a very nice vise at a fraction of the cost of the big name competition.

For the price it is a good tool

Slightly disappointing as the small pins were a bit short for the holes but otherwise a good kit with a range of useful accessories. Using thermoloc to hold your work overcomes the issue of pins. Overall the ball is good quality (very heavy so it isn't going anywhere!) and rotates very smoothly into your hand and tool as you work. The large locking mechanism works fine, the jaws are a bit wobbly and fiddly to tighten but otherwise hold the work well.Worth the money if you are on a tight budget

My ball vise came in GRS packaging with GRS documentation and at this price point could care less if its a knockoff or not because its a quality knockoff other than a bit of fit and finish work needed from the end user.Excelent value for this type of vise! As others have mentioned mine came with holes in the jaws for attachments that need a bit of cleanup/deburring for attachments to fit well, but honestly this is a quality item that just needs some finishing and TLC to make it perfect.. Why pay hundreds more for someone else to clean/deburr some machined holes for you? You could buy a precision carbide reamer to smooth the holes out to perfection with a hand drill or drill press and still be way ahead of the game price wise. This ball vise operates smoothly and is made from quality materials and is comparable to units costing multiples more once you take care of verry minor issues with it. Consider this a diy item for final fit and finish and you wont be dissapointed. Its rock solid and a great value!
