A good idea, but badly made. I had to take the winch apart to fix it before I could use it for the first time. There is a sprung metal clip that holds the cable firmly inside the winch to stop it unraveling when there's no tension on the wire. The clip is twisted and gets stuck under the ratchet cog preventing the cable from being unwound. If I hadn't needed to use it so urgently I would have just sent it back.
After using it for about half an hour, the pully wheel came off when the pin holding it in place fell out. The circlip holding the pin in place had disappeared. Luckily I had a spare and could carry on, but fitting the replacement showed that the groove it fits into was not very well cut and does not have sharply defined edges all round.
Manufacturing issues aside, the design could do with a little re-think as you really need three hands to unwind the cable. You need one to hold the ratchet handle release, one to hold the ratchet catch release, and one to pull the cable out. Some way of locking at least one of the two out of the way would make it much easier to use.
