VEVOR Heavy-Duty Sports Barrier Nets for Safe Play Across All Athletic Venues

Are you trying to make players safer and stop loose balls from hurting fans or damaging property? Sports barrier nets create safe areas where athletes can train and compete with confidence. VEVOR’s barrier netting systems are designed to contain high-speed projectiles while maintaining visibility and withstanding repeated impact from balls, pucks, and weather exposure over time.

Size, Height & Sport-Specific Applications

Choosing the right size and shape of a sports barrier net will ensure it protects effectively based on your sport's ball trajectory, playing area layout, and safety needs.

Baseball Backstop Netting Configurations

The main safety barrier behind home plate and along the foul lines in baseball is the backstop netting, which catches fly balls and wild pitches that could hurt fans. Backstops are usually 12 feet high for youth leagues and 30 feet high or higher for high school and college grounds, where batters hit the ball harder and farther. The netting typically extends 20 to 60 feet behind home plate and 60 to 80 feet wide from dugout to dugout on regulation fields.

For use in batting cages, ceiling nets are typically 12 to 15 feet high to allow for pop flies and full swing follow-through. The depth of the sports barrier net is another important consideration. Cages 40 to 70 feet deep need reinforced support wires every 10 to 15 feet to prevent the net from sagging under the weight of balls striking it over time.

Baseball L Screen and Pitcher Protection

The L screen is essential for protecting pitchers and coaches from line hits during batting practice. The main protected panel on VEVOR's baseball L-shaped screen nets is usually 7 feet tall and 7 feet wide. There is also an extra 4-5 foot side panel that makes the L shape that protects pitchers on the open side.

Commercial-grade units typically feature 1.5- to 2-inch mesh openings with 36- or 42-inch-wide frames constructed from knotted nylon or polyethylene netting. Mobile L-screens have wheels that make them easy to move and store. Fixed setups require ground anchors or weighted bases (typically over 50 pounds) to enhance stability against ball impact or wind loads. For youth teams, 6x6-foot screens with 3-foot side panels are the right size to protect players without blocking the pitcher's view of home plate.

Hockey Backstop Netting System

Hockey backstop netting is designed to contain high-speed pucks that can reach or exceed 100 mph while maintaining spectator visibility. On standard rinks, protective netting typically extends 8 to 10 feet above the dasher boards in the end zones behind the goals.

Along the length of the rink, sports barrier nets often stand 4 to 6 feet above the boards, high enough to catch most pucks that deflect off the boards during play. If you want to play roller hockey or street hockey outside, you can set up portable backstop systems with 10x10-foot or 10x20-foot panels in parking lots or garages. Standard indoor netting may degrade more quickly in direct sunlight, so outdoor installations should use UV-resistant materials.

Soccer and Multi-Sport Barrier Applications

Backstop netting in soccer fields keeps balls from leaving the practice area and from interfering with nearby activities. This is especially important in facilities with multiple fields close together. Typical soccer fence or backstop heights range from about 10 feet for kids' fields to around 20 feet for adult games, where players make strong shots and goal kicks. VEVOR offers soccer backstop netting in 10-foot-wide sections that can be combined to create perimeter barriers for full-size fields, which typically measure 200 to 300 feet in length. Sports barrier net systems that can be moved or adjusted to fit different sports events during the week are useful for multi-sport facilities. Impact-rated netting might be a good idea for shared-use areas where baseball, lacrosse, and field hockey might happen. The smaller, harder balls used in these sports require a tighter mesh and stronger materials than those used in soccer.

Material Durability & Installation

Understanding netting materials and proper installation methods helps ensure long-term durability, weather resistance, and consistent visibility. The choice of netting material has a huge impact on how long it lasts and how well it works. When it comes to sports protection nets, VEVOR uses either high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or knotted nylon. Each has its own benefits. HDPE netting is better at resisting UV light for outdoor installations; it can stay strong for 5 to 8 years in direct sunlight without losing much of its power. Nets that are too loosely attached sag and form pockets that move balls around randomly, while sports barrier nets that are too tightly attached put too much stress on the support poles and cables, causing them to break early. Install tensioning gear at regular intervals (often every 8 to 10 feet) around the outside. To withstand wind loads and frequent ball hits, support pole ground sleeves should be 36 to 48 inches deep into concrete footings. Cable support systems that run horizontally across long net spans need periodic adjustment. This maintains the appropriate sag that absorbs impact energy and prevents balls from bouncing back toward players.
