I hooked up to 2 phase 208V to operate a electric grill which rated at 120V. Normal people will hook it up to a multimeter to check voltage while using it instead of relying on built-in volt meter. The only thing I don't like is how huge and heavy it is. But to be fair that's just how transformers are. It is quiet and easy to use. also built-in an on/off switch.

livr avec une prise secteur fran?aise (2P+T), et c'est important !la prise sur le variac est universelle (mais sans terre si vous y branchez une prise fran?aise).au niveau du voltage, il y a environ 5 volts de diff_ence avec mon multim_re (ex : 216v affich pour 221v mesur).Emet un tr_ petit bruit, peine perceptible 20 cms donc n_ligeable.finition un peu "brute de fonderie" mais cependant tr_ correcte.Donc dans l'ensemble, c'est un tr_ bon variateur de tension.

Tr_ bon variateur de tension, c'est du lourd, du solide et du pr_is. Une _oile en moins pour absence d'adaptateur, la prise utilisateur est d'un standard US.

It is what it says it is. The contacts were a little dirty inside. A wire was up against the sharp neutral couppler on the inside. The circuit breaker is for 6000A AC and probably won't trip, but that might be ok for high amperage startups. I use a zero volt triac to start it, so it doesn't draw too many amps on startup. It has two screws holding on the knob. With 120v AC input, the max output is 171v AC. I haven't tested 240v ac input yet. The AC volt meter seems accurate in the 120-171v range.
