It does its job reliably

It works very well, I ordered it specifically to use a device from Japan that needs to be powered at 100 V, not 110 V like most voltage reduction transformers.

The variac is very solid, good construction, the wiper feels smooth and gives good contact. Unfortunately, in my case, I received one with the analog voltmeter broken/smashed and the axle of the wiper a bit off-center. The axle being off-center is not a problem, the wiper still makes good contact as it is spring loaded. Regarding the voltmeter, I trashed it and replaced it with a standard digital voltmeter which works even better compared to the original.

I bought it to test some over/under voltage relays. For me it`s perfect for what I needed.

500 VA only, because it gets the thing done and it is really the bang for the buck. It is the same casing, only the variable transformers grow bigger. These are iron an copper devices, so only excess heat gets these. Monitor it and this handles the common transients fine. Change the fuse to bigger one and add thermometer to measure the temperature of the core. There are very few electronic devices taking in more than 500W continuous power, but many electric devices, like heaters and incandescent light bulbs. Stretch this one with a bigger fuse, not to blow out at 1 sec peak power and monitor or smell the variac at the constant load. Just my 5 cents. If you want to see what's inside, check pic 2. My unit arrived with the casing a bit of crushed in from the right side, but nothing what and not an impact hammer (hammerhead with pellets inside) could not fix. Pic 2 shows you the inside of the unit, which the Ad does not show. Nothing to be ashamed of here.

Nothing fancy, it does what it says, great and simple design.
